Back by popular demand, a new herd of Gallopalooza horses hit the sidewalks of Kentuckiana in 2009! After a five-year hiatus, organizers have turned up the fun, excitement and merriment with Gallopalooza II, presented by Thorntons. Experience this thrilling event and all its astounding artistry up close and personal, with "Gallopalooza II: The Horses of Possibility City".
Gallopalooza is Louisville's whimsical civic pride and fund-raising project featuring vibrantly decorated life-size horse statues displayed throughout the community. It blossomed in the spring of 2004 as a way to beautify the streets, showcase local artists, encourage tourism and local exploration, as well as generate pride in our hometown. Through the sale of the horses, it raised over $740,000 to support Brightside and other charities.
In 2009, the second edition of the much loved event featured five new horse statues, including two chosen by the public. More than 100 new and returning artists put their own spin on the "Possibility City" theme - capturing the slices of life that make the Greater Louisville community colorful and truly unique. As with the earlier project, the sale of the horses supported community beautification projects in partnership with Brightside.
"Gallopalooza II: The Horses of Possibility City" is the official retrospective featuring stunning portraits of all the horses. It is the perfect companion to the first commemorative book, "Gallopalooza: Louisville's Sidewalk Derby".
